Khandaker Shakib Al Hasan (born 24 March 1987) is a Bangladeshi cricketer and politician. He is the current captain of the Bangladesh national cricket team in Test and T20 and is a member of the National Parliament from Magura-1 constituency. He is a left-arm middle-order batsman and a left-arm orthodox spinner. Considered the greatest cricketer to have ever played for Bangladesh, Shakib is regarded as one of the best all-rounders in the world. Holding the record as the top all-rounder for 10 years, Shakib still holds the highest ranking in the One Day International and Test formats. He was ranked as the 90th most famous athlete in the world by ESPN. Till 2022, he has taken most wickets in T20 World Cup.

He made his one-day international debut against Zimbabwe in August 2006. Shakib is an alumnus of Bangladesh Sports School (BKSP). In January 2015, Shakib became the first and only cricketer to become the number one all-rounder in each edition of Test, ODI and T20 cricket according to the ICC Player Rankings. He became the first Bangladeshi cricketer to score 4,000 in ODIs and became the highest individual run scorer (217) in Tests on 13 January 2017. He became the second batsman of Bangladesh to complete 1000 runs in T20 Besides, he got 1000 runs and 50 wickets in T20 as the second all-rounder.

In June 2019, he became the fastest player to take 5,000 runs and 250 wickets in just 199 matches.

Shakib Al Hasan is one of the world's best cricket all-rounders, who was also the number one all-rounder in all three formats (Test, ODI, T20) for a long time. Only Shakib holds such a record in cricket history.

Early life and youth cricket

Shakib Al Hasan was born on 23 March 1987 in Magura. His father Mashroor Reza is an official of Bangladesh Agricultural Bank and mother Shirin Sharmin is a housewife. Shakib was a sportsman in his youth. His father played football for the Khulna division and a cousin played for the Bangladesh national team. According to daily Prothom Alo's sports editor Uppal Shubhra, "Shakib's cricketing skills were extraordinary and he was hired from village to village to play."

In one such match, Shakib impressed an umpire who later allowed Shakib to practice with the Islampur Para Club (a team in the Magura Cricket League). Shakib continued his characteristic aggressive batting and fast bowling, while experimenting with spin bowling for the first time and succeeding.

As a result, Islampur got a chance to play in the team and picked up wickets with the first ball. This was his first ball with a real cricket ball, until then he played with taped tennis balls. He trained for six months at the Bangladesh Sports Training Institute (BKSP) and in 2004, at the age of 17, he submitted his name to the Khulna team to play in the National League.

Shakib got an opportunity to play in the under-19 team at the age of fifteen. In 2005, he helped the team win the U-19 tri-nation tournament final (the other two nations were England and Sri Lanka) with a century and three wickets off just 86 balls. International career

During the 2006 tour of Zimbabwe, Shakib got the opportunity to play for the Bangladesh national team for the first time. Farhad Reza and Mushfiqur Rahim made their ODI debuts on the same tour. Shakib and Reza were then regarded as "the country's most promising young talents", with outstanding skills in all departments. The statement of the then Chief Selector Farooq Ahmed is memorable in this context: “We have a lot of expectations from the youth. Now is the time to give them an opportunity to play at the international level." Shakib made his ODI debut on August 6. His first victim was Elton Chigumbura. 39-1 was his bowling figure for the day. He remained unbeaten on 30 runs with the bat. Shahriar Nafis played a role in winning the match by scoring the first century of his career that day.
The match was the last match of the series in which Zimbabwe won 3–2. In September of the same year, Shakib, Farhad Reza and Mehrab Hossain Jr. signed with the Bangladesh Cricket Board. As a result, the number of players contracted by the board increased from 20 to 23.
This young cricketer was called to the Bangladesh squad of 15 under the leadership of Habibul Bashar in the '2007 Cricket World Cup' organized by West Indies. This team was able to go to the second phase of the tournament and finished the tournament as the number 7 team. Defeating the mighty India, the team created a major disaster. Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib scored half-centuries as Bangladesh easily reached the target of 192 runs.
Shakib scored another half-century against England in the tournament. In 9 matches he scored 202 runs at an average of 28.85. Mohammad Ashraful scored the highest run for Bangladesh (216). Shakib also took 7 wickets at an average of 43.14.
India came to Bangladesh on a tour of two Tests and three ODIs in May that year. Shakib made his Test debut on May 18 against India. Abhishek didn't exactly turn out like a dream for him. The all-rounder scored 27 runs after getting a chance to bat an innings and remained wicketless in 13 overs.
The match was a draw. India won the Test series 1-0 and the ODI series 3-0. At the end of the series, Dave Whatmore stepped down as the coach of the team and Habibul Bashar was replaced by Mohammad Ashraful. Bangladesh got a chance to play in the second round of the ICC Twenty20 World Cup held in South Africa in September after winning against the West Indies in the first round. Shakib took 4 wickets for 34 runs in the match. Shakib is the first Bangladeshi to take more than 3 wickets in T20 format.
In October, it was announced that Jamie Siddons, Australia's assistant coach at the time, was taking over the Bangladesh team. Siddons undertook a long-term plan for the development of Bangladesh and announced more opportunities for talented youngsters at the international level.

In December 2007, the Bangladesh team came to New Zealand to play two Tests and three ODIs. Despite not getting a chance to play in the first Test, Shakib replaced Enamul Haque Jr. for his batting quality in the next Test. It was Shakib's fourth Test. Till then Shakib was wicketless in Tests. Shakib's first Test victim was New Zealand's Craig Coming. New Zealand won by an innings and 137 runs. New Zealand also whitewashed Bangladesh in the ODI series. In three matches, Shakib scored 31 runs at an average of 10.33 and took three wickets at an average of 42.33. In February-March 2008, South Africa toured Bangladesh to play two Tests and three ODIs. The visiting team won both the Tests. Shakib took just one wicket with 122 runs and scored 75 runs with the bat. South Africa also won the ODI series 3-0. In this series, Shakib crossed the milestone of 1000 runs in ODIs. After playing 39 matches, Shakib's batting average was 35.37.
Criticism
Shakib Al Hasan has been criticized at various times due to various activities on and off the field. During the 2nd ODI[95] of the series between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka on 20 February 2014, he was banned for three matches and fined Tk 3 lakh for indecent behavior in the dressing room.

Temporary expulsion
In July 2014, he was banned from the national team for 6 months and from club cricket outside Bangladesh till July 2015 by the Bangladesh Cricket Board. Board President Nazmul Hasan claimed that he has been punished for misbehaving with national team coach Chandika Hathurusingha, indecent behavior on the field, etc. However, the board faced criticism for this punishment.
Later, considering Shakib's positive behavior at the BCB board meeting on August 26, the ban was reduced. According to the decision of the meeting, Shakib will be able to play international and domestic cricket from September 15 of the same year. After serving a temporary ban, he made a grand comeback in the Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe Test series and took 6 wickets in the first innings of the opposition for 59 runs in the first Test.
personal life
On December 12, 2012, Shakib Al Hasan got married to Umm Ahmed Shishir, a resident of the United States. Their wedding ceremony was held at Hotel Rupsi Bangla in Dhaka. Where various players of Bangladesh national cricket team were present. Currently he is the father of two daughters and a son. Her elder daughter name is Alaina Hasan Aubry and younger daughter name is Irram.[ Son name is Ijah Al Hasan.
